| Dear Colleague,
We thought you would be interested to know that registration is now open for Corporate Climate Response - London, which takes place May 19-21st at the CBI Conference Centre.
This fourth annual event takes an in-depth, detailed look at the most important development in climate response for businesses in the UK: The Carbon Reduction Commitment [CRC]. - The CRC is the UK's new mandatory carbon trading scheme
- 2008 is the qualifying year for CRC participants
- The scheme targets emissions from around 5,000 organisations
- Companies with mandatory half-hourly metered electricity consumption greater than 6,000 MWh per year will be included
"However a business positions itself, energy use and carbon regulation is inevitable. Market mechanisms such as the CRC will help organisations identify the marginal cost of abatement and thus make the most efficient reductions," Jack Cunningham, Group Environment Manager, ITV
Companies need to prepare for the CRC today and this Defra-supported event provides the latest updates on the scheme as well as practical advice on compliance.
This year's event also focuses on the food sector with a full-day dedicated to Climate Change and the Food Industry.
The food industry is the largest contributor of greenhouse gas accounting for 20 per cent of all UK emissions. On May 21st, corporate and industry experts will examine climate impact across the food supply chain and the role of supermarkets in reducing these impacts.
Representatives from Tesco, BSkyB, B&Q, Marks and Spencer, The Co-Operative Group, Barclays, BA, Cable & Wireless, Land Securities, BAA, Trinity Mirror, Cisco, Imperial Tobacco and Nestlé are among those confirmed to speak.
